It’s been another busy week, when it becomes difficult to
find the time to update everyone. I’m recruiting other bloggers in the group,
so hopefully we will be able to give more frequent updates as things start to
really hop.
On Wednesday this week, we presented our plans to the London
Grove Township Planning Commission. We presented a very preliminary sketch to them to give an idea of the layout and density we want, and overall, they
were very receptive. While there are some points that need further
clarification, there was a lot of thoughtful nodding going on at the meeting.
We discussed forming a committee with them to create an Ecovillage Overlay to
address the zoning challenges, and they ended our portion of the meeting by
confirming their desire to have us present to the Board of Supervisors on
Wednesday next week. One future neighbor
also came to express some concerns and we had a long discussion with him after
the meeting to re-assure him on a few points. It was great that he came so that we can start
early to address any issues and keep communications open with all of the neighbors
to our future homes. All told, we couldn’t have asked for a better meeting.
The other very exciting news for the week is that we met again with key early investors for the project. At this point, we have enough financial commitment to be able to purchase the land outright at the end of July. To say it so concisely makes it seem like a trivial thing, but understand that this is a huge step forward in making this project work. Not only does this enable us to purchase the land, but this capital in the project will also be an important factor that banks look at when they determine whether to give us construction loans. We’re off to a great start on the financial aspect of the project, although we know it will still take a lot more capital.
